Common Network Marketing Objections - I Don't Have the Time to Spend on MLM

If you have done any amount of prospecting for your network marketing business, you will have come across the person who appears interested but, when it comes to decision time, objects that they just don't have the time to join your team.

I find this objection laughable. Imagine the scenario... You are talking to Dave, who works a 40 hour week and has a wife and two children. Dave is miserable in his job - his employer doesn't make him feel valued, and his colleagues are beginning to hear the dreaded work 'redundancy' mentioned. Dave's wife also works full-time, despite the fact that both she and Dave would prefer her to stay at home with their young children. She works because the small amount of her wages left over after tax, petrol and childcare costs allow the family to take a vacation each year.

Countless people around the world are living this miserable reality, some of them seeking a better life, some of them not even aware that a better life exists. Enter you. You have the answer for Dave; you have an affordable way for him to take control of his family's life - offering him the way out of his insecure job, offering him a path of real meaning, offering him the income to allow both him and his wife to stay at home with their children. And Dave tells you he doesn't have time? He doesn't have the time to grab this opportunity with both hands and say goodbye to his old life? That makes no sense!

Let me tell you something - if you offered Dave and his family a free holiday of a lifetime that had to be taken within the next six months, he would find the time. If you offered Dave a test drive in his dream car one evening, he would find the time. So what's really going on when Dave tells you he doesn't have the time to build a network marketing business to allow him to live the life he has been dreaming of? There are two possibilities:

  1. You haven't convinced Dave that it could really work for him. He's heard the words you've said, but doesn't believe them. In this situation, you can show Dave exactly how he can achieve the amount of money he needs to achieve his dream life, you can show him your own income cheques, you can tell him about the company's highest income earners... but there's a really simple technique that is more effective than any of these things. The best way to show Dave that this opportunity can transform his life is simply to be excited - speak to him with enthusiasm! You're offering him an amazing opportunity so you should be excited for him and his family - and excitement is contagious. No matter how great your opportunity really is, you won't convince Dave of that if your voice is dull and lifeless. That makes your business sound dull and lifeless - and why should Dave find time in his already unsatisfying life to spend time on something else that is dull and lifeless?
  2. Dave's lazy. Yep, I said it. Unfortunately, there's a large number of people who are actually quite content with living lives that don't fulfil them. Sure, they might be moaning about their job, their income, their neighbourhood, their spouse, and any other number of things going on in their life - but they're never quite motivated enough to take action to change things. If you're speaking to a lazy prospect who likes the idea of financial freedom but will never work harder to achieve it than buying a lottery ticket, they're doing you a favour by making up an excuse. Imagine how much time you would waste if they actually joined your team and you had to try to spur them into some sort of action!

When you hear the 'I don't have the time' objection from a prospect, you need to honestly assess whether you have made a weak attempt to demonstrate the value of your business opportunity to them, or whether you are speaking to a lazy person. But lack of time is never a genuine objection that would stop a serious prospect from taking the action needed to change their life.
